Catalyst Group 2021 Catalogue

Objective

The catalogue’s objective is to showcase all products Catalyst Group has to offer as well as promote the screen printing, embroidery, and heat transfer services offered by the company. The Managing Director and I ensured the information was easily accessible to sales reps, customer service reps, and customers in order to further improve the overall customer experience.

Execution

My notes on objectives, research on the Columbia brand, and sketches for the layout.

One of the challenges was figuring out how to fit all this data and supporting images of the products into a limited amount of pages. Another would be how to further improve the layout and overall design of the catalogues from the year before based on previous feedback.

I researched possible solutions to address the space constraints and layout improvements. Champion, Next Level, and Columbia (whom they partnered with in 2020) release catalogues each year around the time we start to work on ours. I would browse through them as their designers are very talented and inspirations drew on how we could revise our catalogue.

I completely redesigned the layout for the 2019 catalogues as I noticed most of the pages weren’t consistent with where information could be found. I also noticed the old colour charts took up more space than necessary so I worked on minimizing that. The results? A layout that established consistency for the reader so they would know where on the page they can find product images, details, and available colours for that garment. Colour charts also now took up less space. Details on specifics for certain garments were also shown visually in order to help communicate features as well as some differences in youth and adult sizes.

Results

The end results of these catalogues are usually met with positive feedback from customer support reps and sales reps. A main highlight for the 2019 catalogue was how much easier it is to find information when a customer would call in to ask. Feedback on improving the next catalogue was always something I valued. This was especially the case for the 2021 catalogues when a new Graphic Designer hire joined the team and shared his feedback on the work done for the 2020 catalogues.

The catalogues are the biggest project of the year and are essential for accomplishing both business and marketing goals.
